Spoofhounds prep for 2020 opener

After a summer of uncertainty, the high school football season in Missouri finally kicks off this Friday night.

The Maryville Spoofhounds will matchup with the Blair Oaks Falcons in a neutral site contest taking place on the campus of the University of Central Missouri.

The 'Hounds had to go through socially-distanced off-season workouts and practices with new restrictions to get to this point. Now with the first game just days away, Maryville head football coach Matt Webb said this is an opportunity his team won't take for granted.

"I think it's huge. Our community more so than others values what sports brings to a community, our livelihood, and what we enjoy. A lot of those are high expectations, and we get to go out and represent that."

The Spoofhounds do have protocols in place for gameday to keep all involved safe.

"The plan on the field is to be business as usual, but on the sidelines there are some COVID things that will be different," Webb said. "It will be officiated a little bit different, coaches will be wearing masks on the sideline, our travel is a little different and spacing with buses and things like that. Some things are different, but the goal is to go out and play football. Put those things behind you and go play the game you love."

Maryville and Blair Oaks kickoff from Warrensburg at 7pm Friday.
